In 1967 starting as an improbable poverty experiment, 26 hardcore unemployable black men were recruited from the inner city streets of Pittsburgh and trained to become the first paramedics in the United States. They were known as the “Freedom House” paramedics and were the pride of the Hill District. We follow these black paramedic pioneers, with their passionate and emotional stories, into housing projects, shooting galleries and into the homes of affluent whites. Freedom House Street Saviors documentary tells a poignant and proud history of accomplishment and betrayal during a turbulent time in America’s history. Bring this forgotten story of hope, pride, caring and demise: “FREEDOM HOUSE STREET SAVIORS” to your community. Written and Directed by Gene Starzenski
