BEWARE OF MR. BAKER
He lives in South Africa, in a fortified polo compound with his 29-year-old internet bride and 39 polo ponies. In 1972, he drove the first Range Rover from London to Nigeria in pursuit of the hypnotizing polyrhythms of Fela Kuti. A couple of years earlier, he was shooting smack with Jimi Hendrix and decimating the Western world as the drummer for Cream. Ex-wives, addictions, children, self-destruction and international intrigue fill out the details for the intervening years, but above all towers the music of Ginger Baker – behind the kits of some of the biggest bands in English history and behind the mixing boards of make-shift recording studios in Capetown. Testifying for (or, against) the charms, talents, scams and bridges burned are four of his ex-wives, three of his children, Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood, Femi Kuti and more. Dir: Jay Bulger. 2012. Digital. 93 mins. Nightly at 7pm & 9pm, plus Sat. + Sun. at (3:15pm) & 5pm
