SONGS ALONG A STONY ROAD
Moving West to East through the Hungarian-speaking regions of Transylvania and the rolling hills on the East of the Carpathians, Songs Along A Stony Road tells the story of Transylvania’s folk musicians, and of Zoltán Kallós, their guard- ian angel. The characters and their music emerge from the landscapes that form them as the film captures the last remnants of ancient rural traditions; a way of life facing imminent extinction as Romania integrates with the rest of Europe. A film by George Paul Csicsery & Chris Teerink. In Hungarian and Romanian with English subtitles. 2011 Digital. 69 mins. 7pm & 9pm

SPROUT WINGS AND FLY - This touching tribute to Appalachian culture profiles legendary, old-time fiddler Tommy Jarrell. His unpretentious folk wisdom is interlaced with family scenes and reminiscences, plus plenty of old- time music. Directed by Les Blank. 1983. 30 mins. (M)
