Aristotle’s Plot

Director Jean-Pierre Bekolo will be present to introduce the film and for a Q&A after the screening with Osarugue Otebele.

Commissioned by the BFI as part of its “Century of Cinema” series commemorating the 100th anniversary of cinema, Aristotle’s Plot is a comedic look at the fate of African filmmaking in the 1990s. In a southern African town, a group of young wannabe gangsters hang out at the local cinema, where they binge-watch classic U.S. action movies. When a filmmaker tries to petition the local government to play African films instead, the two groups enter into conflict over what should be shown on African screens.
