BANGLA SURF GIRLS, directed by Elizabeth D. Costa, is an inspiring and immersive documentary that takes us into the heart of Cox’s Bazar, a beach town in Bangladesh, where we witness the transformation of young girls who join a local surf club and dream of freedom from traditional expectations.

The memorable, educational and heartfelt storyline of the film intimately captures the raw emotions of the family, and the complex pressures on poor, working-class girls. Balancing the freedom of the waves with the restrictive realities of their circumstances, the film allows us to experience the thrill and struggle of coming of age. Director Elizabeth D. Costa is a first-time Bangladeshi filmmaker who honed her career as a script supervisor for Tareque and Catherine Masud (THE CLAY BIRD, 2002 Cannes Film Festival). The film is written and produced by Lalita Krishna.
