An event at 518 Valencia Street, SF – around the corner from the Roxie.

San Francisco’s significant cinematic history meets neon’s luminous past in this collaborative program of excerpts from such famous technicolor films as Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo and classic noir films like Dark Passage and Lady from Shanghai. Hosted by Al Barna and Randall Ann Homan of SF Neon with Jim Van Buskirk, co-author of Celluloid San Francisco.

One of the features in this presentation is the neon-filled set from Alfred’s Hitchcock’s Vertigo. The Hotel Empire neon sign on Sutter Street was used as a location shot. The studio version of the sign floods a hotel room scene with an unforgettable eerie green glow. Other not-so-familiar films include Thieve’s Highway, Race Street, and The Man Who Cheated Himself. This event is part of the San Francisco: City of Neon Series to kick off 2024, in proud partnership with the Tenderloin Museum.
