The Other Barrio
The award-winning noir feature from Producers Louis F. Dematteis and Dante Betteo, Directed by Dante Betteo
The City is changing…neighborhood-by-neighborhood, block-by-block, bar-by-bar — change with it or fight fire with fire.
As if ripped from today’s headlines reporting fires, evictions and protests in the street, “The Other Barrio” follows housing inspector Roberto Morales (Richard Montoya) as he investigates the suspicious circumstances of a fatal residential hotel fire in San Francisco’s rapidly gentrifying Latino Mission District and finds himself face-to-face with murder in the streets, corruption at City Hall and the mysterious Sofia Nido (Veronica Valencia), a beautiful but dangerous flame from his past.
This independent noir feature, based on a short story by San Francisco Poet Laureate Emeritus Alejandro Murguia, takes viewers deep into neighborhoods and communities seldom seen on film, while addressing the timely issues of gentrification and displacement of low-income communities along the way.

said, the story were “ripped from the headlines.”—Leah Garchik, SF Chronicle
