La Nana (The Maid)

Raquel has spent more than 20 years working as a live‑in maid for the same family in Santiago, Chile. Fiercely devoted to her employers yet increasingly worn down by the demands of her job, she begins to push back when new help is brought in to “relieve” her. What follows is a funny, tender, and deeply human portrait of a woman whose identity has been shaped — and confined — by the household she serves.

A breakout hit for both Chilean cinema and writer‑director Sebastián Silva, La Nana received its American premiere at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival, where it won the World Cinema Dramatic Jury Prize. Catalina Saavedra’s unforgettable, award‑winning performance anchors this nuanced exploration of class, loyalty, and the quiet revolutions of the heart.
