The Black Sea

  • Man looking at sunset by a pond
  • Man and woman hugging in late evening

Q&A with co-directors Crystal Moselle & Derrick Harden (also cast lead), moderated by film writer & contributor to the SF Chronicle & 48 Hills and SF/Bay Area Film Critics Association member & past president, Pam Grady, Saturday, December 14!

“[A] cinematic slam poem about how shattered dreams lead people to become castaways, or refugees, or immigrants, far from their place of origin. […] Everyone here, from in front of and behind the camera, is discovering life in real time.”—Ryan Lattanzio, indieWire

Crystal Moselle (The WolfpackSkate Kitchen) returns with another blast of charismatic energy, as Khalid (co-director Derrick B. Harden) a charismatic big dreamer from Brooklyn with no follow-thru gets stuck in a small Bulgarian resort town on the Black Sea after chasing a fast cash opportunity that goes awry. As the only black guy around, he becomes the center of the town’s curiosity. His New York City street bop is all he has to survive and figure out how to get home. But in his pursuit he finds connection in a way he never expected. Based on a true story.
