ADA Celebration: Vivien’s Wild Ride + Sign 504 Now!
A special double feature screening on Sunday, July 26th at 1pm. Click the BUY TICKETS button at the bottom of the page!
Featuring a live panel discussion moderated by CRIP CAMP director Jim LeBrecht, with VIVIEN’S WILD RIDE director Vivien Hillgrove, Dr. Victor Santiago Pineda (Executive Director, Center for Independent Living), and Dr. Kevin Mintz (Roxie Community Member and Disability Rights Advocate)
First, SIGN 504 NOW! (30min) takes us to the frontlines of a landmark, 26-day sit-in at the SF Federal Office Building conducted by over 150 disabled activists in 1977. Captured by the pioneering Queer Blue Light video collective, this vital piece of archival history documents the cross-movement solidarity—from the Black Panthers to local LGBTQ+ allies—that fueled the longest nonviolent occupation of a federal building in U.S. history.
Then join us for VIVIEN’S WILD RIDE, a feature-length documentary about iconic local film editor Vivien Hillgrove’s experience with macular degeneration. As Vivien’s eyesight deteriorates, she grapples anew with questions of memory, identity, and artistic survival. In this bold directorial debut, a legendary Bay Area cinematic voice learns to navigate a changing world—redefining belonging, family, and disability through a brilliant collage of sight and sound.
We are proud to partner with the GLBT Historical Society, the California State Council on Developmental Disabilities, and the Center for Independent Living, on this exciting event!
