Gabriel Over the White House (1933)
Part of our series Wild, Weird, Wicked: Films from Before the Code!
Academy Award winner Walter Huston stars as a man planning to do nothing after he is elected to be President of the United States–but everything changes when he has a vision of the angel Gabriel Over the White House.
Soon after party hack Judson Hammond (Huston–The Treasure of the Sierra Madre) takes office, he barely survives an automobile accident. While comatose, he is visited by the archangel Gabriel with a message from God. When Hammond recovers, he takes over all branches of government–turning the United States into a benign Fascist state and earning the love, adoration and respect of a grateful nation.
