Mur Murs
Returning to Los Angeles, where she had lived and worked in the late 1960s, Agnès Varda became fascinated by the colorful murals that adorned—and were rapidly disappearing from—the city’s walls. The result was Mur Murs, an exuberant love letter to Southern California that explores these vibrant works of public art, the artists who created them, and the diverse communities they served, from Chicano East Los Angeles to Venice Beach. A fascinating companion to ASCO: Without Permission, the film features members of the groundbreaking East Los Angeles collective ASCO alongside muralists, musicians, and community activists, capturing a pivotal moment in the city’s cultural history.
See Mur Murs at 6:15pm on its own, or pair it with ASCO: Without Permission screening at 8:10p for a special $17 double-feature ticket.
