Nuit obscure (feuillets sauvages)

Obscure Night – Wild Leaves (The Burning Ones, the Obstinate)

The first part of a larger cycle of films, Obscure Night – Wild Leaves follows young men as they risk their lives to board ships headed for Spain. “Melilla, a Spanish enclave in Morocco, is a land border between the African continent and Europe. A buffer zone where European migration policies, their challenges and their consequences can be read and seen. A place towards which converge, from Morocco, “those who burn”, the “harragas”, minors and young adults, eager to reach Europe. They have nothing to lose but wanting to live to the end.”

Screening as part of NO BORDER: The Films of Sylvain George, a multi-day retrospective playing across the Bay Area. Sylvain George in person.

This retrospective is supported by the Jean Monnet Center of Excellence, the UC Berkeley Institute for European Studies, and the UC Berkeley Department of French.
