SF DocFest 2024: Dreambreaker: A Pickleball Story

Filmmakers in attendance

Shot over a cataclysmic two-year period, the film follows the evolution of America’s fastest growing sport, from retirement communities to the New York Stock Exchange. Dreambreaker: A Pickleball Story offers a close look at the trailblazers who birthed a new professional sport. In the chaotic gold rush that follows, a rivalry emerges to settle this new sporting terrain. Bonds are broken and friends betrayed, as scores of pickleball pros are caught in the crosshairs of the ego and ambition of feuding Texas billionaires.

Distinctly American, the fight for pro pickleball forces us to grapple with the best and worst of capitalism’s role in sports and in our collective pursuit of the American Dream.
