SF IndieFest: The Karamazovs & Shrapnel

Filmmakers in attendance

The Karamazovs: Fyodor Karamazov is dying and holed up in his oceanfront home with Liz, his loyal caretaker, when his three estranged children return home to settle a financial dispute. Despite carving out new lives for themselves (Aly has found refuge in religion, Viv is a queer intellectual, and Dmitri, a charismatic screw-up) each is in the midst of their own personal crisis. Part murder mystery, part spiritual quest, THE KARAMAZOVS follows Liz as she pieces together her memories of that eventful week. She is haunted by it still, in this contemporary American adaptation inspired by Dostoevsky’s classic novel about what we inherit from our parents and what we chose to leave in the grave. (86 min, dir. Anna Brenner)

Shrapnel: A Vietnam veteran wakes up in an empty hospital. He notices he is missing one of his legs. As he begins to explore the hospital seeking help or an exit, post traumatic visions manifest before his eyes and he realizes he is not alone. (2 min, dir. Nathan Gagnon)
