SFJFF: Come Closer
Part of the San Francisco Jewish Film Festival
Brimming with sexual energy, a pulsing soundtrack, and a stunning ensemble cast, Come Closer examines the profundity of grief and the complicated ties between those left behind. Lia Elalouf makes a superb debut as Eden, a wild young woman staggered by the loss of her younger brother, Nati. Ido Tako (Vanishing Soldier, SFJFF 2024) sparkles as Nati, a happy-go-lucky guy overshadowed by his restless sister. When Eden discovers that Nati had a secret girlfriend, Maya, she tracks her down with the determination of a hardboiled detective. Maya, played with girl-next-door wholesomeness by Darya Rosenn, is drawn to Eden’s kinetic energy. What begins as a fraught rapport between the young women evolves into a vulnerable and intimate relationship. Director Tom Nesher was named one of Variety’s 10 Directors to Watch in 2025. Come Closer is the winner of the Israeli Ophir Awards for Best Film, Director, and Actress, as well as the Tribeca Viewpoints Award. —Nancy Fishman
