The Bad Sleepbomb Trip Experience

  • Pink face in green exposure

A Horror, Film, and Music Experience featuring an original live film score by Sleepbomb and short films by Greg Downing and GrayDaughter Films.

Take The Bad Sleepbomb Trip Experience and join Psyched! Fest for a ghastly evening ritual celebrating music and cinema this Halloween at The Roxie.

San Francisco’s henchmen of doom, Sleepbomb will perform an original live film score to mysteries and surprises of the occult.

The phantasmagoria winds down with a screening of shorts: a captivating assortment of music thrillers from purveyors of the avant garde and experimental filmmakers Greg Downing (Bad Acid Presents) and GrayDaughter (GrayDaughter Films).

Seeped in music and unsettling thrill, this cinematic trip is co-presented to you by GrayMatter Productions and Psyched! Films.

Sleepbomb

Sleepbomb is a San Francisco-based psychedelic doom project focused on full, original scores for genre films including the German Expressionist silent masterpieces – The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, Nosferatu and Metropolis. Sleepbomb has also written and performed full scores for George Romero’s 1968 classic zombie film Night of the Living Dead and the epic swords & snakes of John Milius’ 1982 Conan the Barbarian. Historically a live experience, Sleepbomb has performed their scores across the West coast of the US since 2003 and now has set their sights on expanding to the East coast and the world for 2025.

Musically, Sleepbomb ranges from heavy doom riffs to dreamy shoegaze, dark soundscapes punctuated with shimmering guitar and ethereal vocals. Originally stylistically close to a chaotic version of Throbbing Gristle vs Black Sabbath, Sleepbomb has been exploring experimental sounds and forms, guided by the band’s love of Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Coil, Neurosis, Sunn 0))), Ulver and Swans, among others. Settling on a drone influenced style of doom metal as the overarching theme while exploring other genres as appropriate for each film’s particular style, Sleepbomb’s goal is to re-contextualize the experience of these well known films.

Greg Downing (Bad Acid Presents)

Gregory Downing is a filmmaker and musician based in Oakland, California. He graduated from SFSU film school and his work is heavily inspired by Dada and Surrealist filmmakers of the early twentieth century, bringing avant-garde aesthetics into the digital age. Through his production company, Bad Acid Presents, Downing has collaborated with major companies such as Netflix, Pixar, HBO Max, Calm Inc., Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, Fat Wreck Chords, and many more. In August he wrapped principal photography on indie horror short SHRIEEK to be released next year.

GrayDaughter Films

GrayDaughter is a visual and experimental fine artist whose subversive photographic and motion work often focuses on themes of collective introspection and raw, intrepid emotions. Their approach to analog marries the houses of music culture and documentary filmmaking, striking a distinct-yet-authentic visual balance between intimately shared slice-of-life moments and fully choreographed art house scenes.
In August of 2024, GrayDaughter’s psychological short film, Fear of a Blank Planet, featuring sounds from Austrian doom metal quartet Black Air, received its debut screening this summer at Wilmington Underground Film Festival.
They are based out of Raleigh, North Carolina.
