The Diary of a Teenage Girl
Co-presented by Film SF | San Francisco Film Commission & SFFILM
Set in San Francisco during the mid-1970s, The Diary of a Teenage Girl follows Minnie Goetze, a 15-year-old aspiring cartoonist navigating adolescence, creativity, and sexuality in a world that feels both liberating and uncertain. When Minnie begins an affair with her mother’s much older boyfriend, it propels her into an unflinching exploration of desire, boundaries, and self-expression, all told with the honesty and messiness of a young woman coming of age in a culturally shifting era. Film SF and The Roxie are thrilled to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of this San Francisco gem adapted from Phoebe Gloeckner’s graphic novel/memoir and directed by Bay Area native Marielle Heller (A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, Nightbitch). Join us for a post-screening Q&A with Line Producer Debbie Brubaker, First A.D. Brian Benson, and Set Decorator Susie Alegria moderated by Film SF Executive Director Manijeh Fata.
Written and directed by: Marielle Heller
Starring: Bel Powley, Kristen Wiig, Alexander Skarsgård, Christopher Meloni, Margarita Levieva, Madeleine Waters, Austin Lyon
