ZYZZYVA Movie Night with Ingrid Rojas Contreras and Robert Samuels: Blindspotting

Co-presented with Litquake, San Francisco’s literary festival (October 9-25).

For its special Litquake installment, ZYZZYVA Movie Night with Ingrid Rojas Contreras offers a critically acclaimed 2018 film about Oakland, which will be introduced by featured guest Robert Samuels, co-author of the Pulitzer Prize–winning book His Name Is George Floyd (which was also a finalist for the National Book Award) and national enterprise reporter at the Washington Post. Blindspotting, directed by Carlos Lopez Estrada, stars Daveed Diggs and Rafael Casal, who also co-wrote the comedic drama, and follows a parolee in the immediate aftermath of witnessing a fatal police shooting. “By equal turns tense and witty but with plenty of perceptive social commentary to go around,” writes Amon Warmann in Empire Magazine, Blindspotting is “a film that only gets more rewarding the more you look under its surface.” The screening will be followed by a short interview with Robert Samuels about the film. Co-hosted by ZYZZYVA editor Oscar Villalon. Doors at 5:30pm for book sales/signing.
