Presented in partnership with the American Cinematheque.

This June, The Roxie Theater is thrilled to present Bleak Week: Cinema of Despair alongside American Cinematheque and nearly 100 theaters across the country and around the world participating in this global film festival initiative.

A weeklong festival that spotlights some of the greatest films from around the world that explore the darkest sides of humanity, as well as some of the bleakest points in human history. A harrowing, yet powerful lineup of films defined by stark imagery, unimaginable tragedies, existential fear, nihilism and shocking acts of brutality, this series features the world’s leading filmmakers who wholly embrace a cinema of despair in pursuit of unpleasant truths and raw empathy.

Join us for a very special week of communal moviegoing and, hopefully, catharsis through cinema.

Tickets are $14-$15 and free or discounted for members. Get a 3-film pass and see 3 films included in the festival for only $33! If you purchase a 3-film pass, this will be available for pick up at the box office starting June 5. You will only be able to redeem your tickets at the box office when presenting the pass. Tickets will be held for pass holders for all screenings.
